MOUNTAIN By ... Steve Lucky Extending up into the sky, Mountain peaks are very high. Learning how to properly climb Up to its summit will take plenty of time. Things such as how to climb it best And when to get some much needed rest Comes to those who can endure Paths for which they are unsure. Risking their lives just to learn, Future climbers look and yearn To find a way to reach the top. Ambition is something hard to stop. Helicopter rides to the top may be neat, But climbers consider it a cheat. Only through hard work can one even hope Success will be found at the end of a climbing rope. Gradual progress has to be made In a place sometimes offering very little shade. Everything can be lost if one climber should fall. Weight placed on one is placed on all. Done for more reasons than simply to brag, Higher and higher they place a flag Until it is as high as it can be For the people down below to see. Others are content to look, Knowing the risk those climbers took. Copyright 2003, Steve Lucky
