WALKING By ... Steve Lucky Distant journeys begin with a single step. Those with the courage to take it Are on their way to their intended destination. One is capable of exploring the world If one has the willpower to keep going. Handicaps may be less noticable, but they are still present. Time is needed to reach a given location. By the time one reaches it, Surrounding circumstances may be quite different. Usually one can do what needs to be done. Neighbors can be visited almost anytime. Even people in nearby cities can be visited occasionally. Landmarks in the area become familiar Since they are passed time and time again. With greater freedom of movement comes moral obligations. Requirements to help those less fortunate may not be found, But one should still help others, less fortunate or not. People communicate with each other making sure Gifts given ultimately come back to the giver. Once the initial pattern has been established, Improvements can be made through steady repetition. Each step leads to the next one Which one learns to do faster and more accurately. The world is far from empty And many parts of it can be reached By one willing to make such a journey. Reaching out brings dangers as well as new friendships. Distinguishing between the two few people can do perfectly, if any. More than other people, experts have to trust those around them Which is why they learn to run. Copyright 2003, Steve Lucky
