SHIP IN A BOTTLE By ... Steve Lucky Inside the bottle the ship is built, Designed not to break if the bottle should tilt. With skill and precision the pieces are placed Because mistakes breaking something can not be erased. Why was the ship ever placed inside? So with outside objects in can not collide. Another question is stranger still, One not appearing to be solved by mere will. How can the ship ever be pulled out whole Unless the bottle is broken to pay for the toll? Onlookers can see but never can touch Because if they could it would not mean as much. Keeping it safe from dirt and grime So it can withstand the test of time, Comes at the price of isolation. Glass as a shield brings the realization That it is a fragile thing one can break at will, Yet the ship in the bottle is more fragile still. Leave it alone and it will last for years As a sign of the builder's sweat and tears. Copyright 2007, Steve Lucky
